SDG Stories Privacy Policy

About this policy:

SDG Stories is a open platform to enable interaction between politicians and citizens. We collect some information from you in order for you to have an account so you can participate in the site, and other information necessary for the service to work. The goal of this policy is to keep your information as secure as possible, and to ensure you remain as anonymous as you wish. We don't sell or profit from the information you share with us.

We do take efforts to make sure the platform keeps working. This includes using your information, where necessary, to stop spam, and other activities that violate the user agreement. We also share your information when legally required to do so. You should read this agreement carefully. It describes what information we collect from you, how we use it, and when it is shared. Knowing these things will help you make smart decisions when you use SDG Stories. We have tried to strike a good balance in this policy between us as the site's operators, and you as the users. Let us know what you think!

What information we collect:

Registration information:
When you sign up for your SDG Stories account we will ask you for several things. These are your name; your name; an alias (used to make your account’s URL); your email address; a password; and your country. It is required to fill out these fields, however we do not demand that your name or country are truthful. Some of this information, such as your name, will be displayed publicly. It is still possible to browse SDG Stories without creating an account.

Additional information:
You may also choose to upload a profile picture to SDG Stories. This will also be publicly available.

Post data:
The posts you make on SDG Stories are publicly viewable. As such, by default, they are never deleted from our servers. If you choose to deactivate your account, your account will no longer be publicly or privately accessible; however, your posts will not be automatically deleted as they affect the posts of other users and to delete them would destroy any conversation of which they are a part.

How we use or disclose collected information:

It takes a lot of work to keep our site running and prevent abuse, and we sometimes use your data in order to facilitate this. Your information is used internally only where necessary to provide our services.

Your private information is never for sale.
This means that we will only share your personal data with your consent, and after letting you know what information will be shared and with whom, unless it is otherwise permitted in this policy.
Anonymous, aggregated information that cannot be linked back to an individual user may be made available to third parties.

SDG Stories will not disclose your information unless required by law.
We will not share your information with law enforcement agencies unless compelled to do so via valid legal process. If we are going to release your information, we will provide you with notice in advance through the email associated with your account, unless prohibited from doing so by law.

Your information may be disclosed by us in an emergency or to keep our services running.
Other extraordinary circumstances may require disclosure: we may also disclose your information when we believe it's necessary to prevent imminent and serious bodily harm to a person; to address fraud, security, or spam; or to protect our rights or property.

Cookie policy:

Cookies are small data files placed on your computer by websites you visit in order to help them remember certain information about you. At SDG Stories we set only a few cookies to collect the following information:

These cookies are solely to help you view the website and the information they collect is totally anonymous.

Analytics cookies

We use a tool called Google Analytics to help us understand how users interact with our website. It tells us aggregate usage and traffic information, such as how the site was accessed, how long visitors stayed, and the number of first-time visitors to the site. By knowing how people use the site, we can make it better. To learn more about Google Analytics and how it uses your data, please visit http://www.google.com/analytics/learn/privacy.html.

Disabling cookies

Most browsers include an option to clear existing cookies or reject new ones. However, if you do this, portions of the SDG Stories website may not function as intended.

Account deletion

You may choose to deactivate your SDG Stories account at any time. Your public profile is no longer visible to users of the site. However, the posts you made during your tenure as a SDG Stories user will not be automatically deleted as part of the account removal process, as your posts are part of a wider conversation and deleting them would affect the quality of other users' posts.

If you choose to deactivate your account then we will retain your information. In this way, should you choose to reactivate, you will not have to resubmit your information.

Data security

SDG Stories will make every effort to secure any private information submitted to us by our users. However, no data transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee the absolute security of this data. You use the service at your own risk, and are responsible for taking reasonable measures to secure your account (such as carefully maintaining the secrecy of your password).

Third-party websites

Your information will not be shared with any third-party websites, not do we receive any information about you from third-party websites.

Changes to this policy

We reserve the right to change this policy to meet the changing needs of SDG Stories, or for any other reason. If we make changes, we will notify our users. Where the changes substantially alters your rights, we will notify you immediately. More minor changes may only be highlighted by the privacy policy link in the footer of our website.
